Best Beaches Near Downtown St. Petersburg Florida

EGMONT KEY

This state preserve, located on an island off St. Pete’s coast, can only be reached by boat. Egmont Key can be reached from nine public boat ramps in St. Pete. It features an 87-foot lighthouse and a wildlife refuge covering 440 acres. There are miles of quiet beaches and traces of Fort Dade.

This county park covers 900 acres and includes paved fitness trails and nature trails, canoe trails that run for 2.25 miles, a boat launch with floating docks, fishing platforms, picnic pavilions with grills and concession stands, as well as a historic fort. The park’s five islands can be toured and visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Tampa Bay from the island’s southern shores.

The observation tower is 10 feet high and offers a stunning view of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Boca Ciega Bay, and Gulf of Mexico.

There’s also a beautiful palm tree arboretum that can be used for afternoon strolls and beachside picnics.
